Just what I hoped for ...
By Brian1862 on Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2025
I received my pair of white 10 pound Cap competition bumper plates today. Delivered on time. At just over a dollar a pound, they're a good buy for me. I already have 25 and 45 pound bumpers ... I just needed a couple of extra10s, and these were cheaper than a pair of basic iron 10s I was considering. They do not smell. They are not greasy or oily -- they arrived dry and clean. There were no metal shavings or other debris in the package. The white rubber has some very slight discolorations in it (don't care), but is not chipped or scratched. The center is nicely machined, smooth metal. For potential buyers who may not be familiar with bumper plates, a couple of observations: - These are skinny 10 pound bumpers, so they flex easily, as do all 10 pound bumpers - cheap or expensive. I will not be using these alone on the bar. - And yes, bumper plates are all the same diameter regardless of weight - some reviewers seemed to think that's a problem. - And, also normal, they do not have much of a lip to grip, as some iron plates do. They certainly do not have handholds cut into them. Again ... this is normal for bumpers. Thanks Cap!

Mediocre Quality

I ordered a pair of 10lb and 15lb Competition plates for my 10 year old son, who uses a Rogue Youth 20lb barbell. The plates arrived quickly and very well packaged. There was no odor, at least not without putting your nose very close to them. For "Competition" plates, I expected higher overall quality. Upon inspection, I found the rubber molding was very weak and had several obvious defects, with some areas of the plates looking like they had cuts in them. The slightly lower price point shouldn't be an excuse for this. If that's the case, raise the price and ensure a higher quality product, but don't sell these as Competition grade plates when they are far from meeting those standards. These plates are more comparable to very low end Economy grade bumpers from other brands. The 10lb plates bend very easily, even with a 20lb barbell. You can actually bend them with your hand. The 15lb plates arent far behind. I can't imagine how bad the CAP Economy/Pro/Elite plates are in regards to stiffness and rubber finish. I assume the customers who gave them 5 stars haven't seen or used quality bumpers. If you're just looking for bumpers to reduce noise while re-racking, loading or lifting, I think these would be fine. If you're looking for stiff, long term use 10lb/15lb bumper plates you can drop, and use without worry, I'd highly recommend going with Fringe, Rogue, Giant, or even Titan. I gave these an honest chance, because they looked decent and some of the reviews sounded convincing, but I will be returning these immediately, as they do not meet the needs for even my 10 year old son. I'd like to make it clear again that these were tested only with a 20lb barbell, not a 45lb bar. Please understand what you are getting, and do some research before purchasing these plates to ensure they meet your personal needs.
