Great Glasses
By B. McCarthy on Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2023
I used to buy Maui Jims all the time. They make the best sunglass lenses out there, hands down. Check their website and read about their 7 layer glass if you don't believe me. In high school and college, I had friends with expensive glasses and I tried them all, I settled on Maui because they really are better. And I have trouble with glare, it gives me headaches, so that's important. THen I grew up and had kids, and I realized that I had spent the equivalent of $500 a pair on sunglasses 5 or 6 times and I really need to stop wasting money. So for the past 2 decades I have worn $30 a pair sunglasses from Costco that are polarized. Polarization is the key, and those glasses were 80% of what Maui Jim glasses are, so the cost made it worth giving up a little clarity. Now I saw these and jumped at the chance to have a pair of Mauis again! The frames are very thin, they won't hold up well to abuse, but since mine never leave my car, that's not a problem. It took a little adjusting with pliers because they had bent in the mail (what happened to the good hard cases that they used to pack Maui Jims in, which could be run over by a car and not crush???) But once they were on, I remembered why Mauis are the best. The clarity, the ease of seeing, and the fact that they remove the parts of the light which are harmful without removing the light. Yes, compare these to other glasses and there will be more light with these, but it won't feel that way when you are wearing them, you'll see more without feeling like you are staring at the sun. Oh yes, I live in sunny South Florida! So the moral of my story is that you should definitely get a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses if you can afford them, but you may want to look for a pair with thicker frames unless you are really super careful with your glasses and never take them out of the car.

Very nice but, what I received isn't what is pictured in the main pictures shown in the ad.

This is my second pair of Maui Jim sunglasses and as it turns out these will be a nice compliment to the other pair which are much darker. These are brighter and do make everything "crisper" when wearing them, they just don't block out as much light. So, on a super bright and clear day I wear the other pair, and on less sunny days or later in the day, this is the pair I'm going with. I like that the frames are titanium which allows them to be much thinner and lighter than my other pair while still being quite strong, they almost feel like I'm not wearing them when compared side by side with my others. Here's my issue with these though, I really like the shape of the lenses that are shown in the first three pictures in the advertisement (teardrop) and I didn't notice when deciding to get these that the fifth and sixth pictures are not only different (almost flat bottom) but actually quite a bit different in shape and that is the shape of the frames/lenses that I actually received. It's not a deal breaker for me but at this price point I expect all of the photos displayed to be of the actual product that I will receive.
