Well Built Keeps Ice For Days
By Linda A Miller on Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2023
This Igloo Cooler is very well built and seems like it will hold up to use for a long time. I tested it on a road trip where I stayed overnight at a campground and had it sitting in my van the whole time. I put ice in it on a Monday, camped overnight, came home and left it and drinks in the cooler in the van.The video shows what I find when I go out to the van for a look on the following Friday to see if there was any ice left and well, the video shows that there still was ice! Sure it had some water, but, quite a bit of ice still. The drinks were very cold still. Now, one thing that some may see as a con is that it doesn't have a drain plug, but, for me, it was what I wanted because I have heard stories about the drain plugs leaking water out and since I was going to have this sitting in my van I did not want the risk water leakage in my van. It's not that big of deal to dump it out when you are finished using the cooler. The latches like the ones here on some other brand coolers, I have read were too hard to pull and then some of them broke eventually from having to pull them so hard and stretching them so much. The latches on the Igloo seem to be just right. You don't have to pull really hard, just enough to release it and then put it back to secure it. I also like the little places on the top for tie downs. The handle is very sturdy and solid and easy to grip. Igloo has been making coolers for a long long time, and this is a lot less expensive than some other competitors and I doubt if someone is going to want to steal my Igloo cooler, another reason why I went with this brand. It looks really good too and fits perfectly in my passenger seat in my van. It will sweat a bit of course, so I just put a tarp underneath it and a towel to absorb any moisture. This is really perfect for a one to 3 day outing for sure and I'm glad I decided to go with Igloo!

Seems durable. Ice retention is way over estimated.
By Barry Robinson on Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2023
It nice and thick, seems a bit more rugged than your cheapo’s and it looks good. I received on a Thursday afternoon and immediately put 5 ice packs in the cooler to start the pre-chill process. All drinks that were to be put in the cooler were in the house and cooled to an ambient 75*f. The next morning (Friday) the cooler was sufficiently chilled, the ice packs removed, placed inside my truck and filled with 24 bottles of water and eight 16oz energy drinks. 21lbs of ice was put into the cooler and we drove about 8 hours that day going from DFW to Palo Duro Canyon. OAT’s we’re about 100F as this is July in Texas. Again, the cooler is in the back seat of my F-150, in the air conditioned cab. We parked, left the cooler in the truck all night and by Saturday morning about 1/2 the ice was melted. This was probably about 24 hours since we filled it with ice. We went hiking for a few hours leaving the cooler in the back of the truck and when we came back and I placed my hand on the cooler I could feel the exterior was cold. It’s not well insulated. As I type this on Saturday afternoon I have no doubt that by morning (Sunday) all the ice will be gone and it will be just cold-to-cool water. We’ll head back tomorrow (Sunday) so I’ll drain it before we leave to keep from hearing it slosh all the way home. For a quick three-day trip it did okay but nothing spectacular. It it had been in the bed under the cover I doubt it would have made one-and-a-half days. We had had cold drinks and cold melt water with which to soak towels so we could cool down after hiking in the park so in that respect it was successful. For the $130 I paid I was expecting a lot more, at least a solid 4 days but I’ll get nowhere close to that. I’ll work for a 2-day cooler in the heat but if you need serious ice retention, 4-5 days worth, look elsewhere as this is not the cooler for you. If you want a 2-day cooler, there are better priced units out that that will do just as well. I personally wouldn’t buy this one again unless the price was dropped significantly. It’s maybe a $50-$75 cooler at best. Also, it is not airtight. I drained the water completely without even loosening the latches. I’ll have to look for a better brand, with wheels as was suggested by my wife, for our future extended day trips in the heat.
