LEXIVON Hatchet for Camping 36"

I have to admit I’m unimpressed by this axe. I was let down initially by the fact that I’m about 90% sure I ordered the chopping axe and instead got the splitting axe. The link to both axes is practically identical with the exception of one saying “splitting” and the other “chopping”, photos are the same as well as most of the description. It very well may have been my mistake so I’m taking no stars off for that. Rather than send it back I chose to see if an 18” splitting axe would fall into my rotation of tools. The workmanship is lacking, as you can see from the picture the axe showed up with a chipped/rolled edge, not a show stopper but a new axe should be in new condition. The axe is obviously based on Fiskars, I prefer the ergonomics of the Fiskars but that’s just my opinion. The retention clip for the sheath is cumbersome and looks like it will fail prematurely, again they had to make modifications to fiskars design and it fell short. Performance wise it was a complete let down for me, I mostly have oak on my property and this axe can’t split small logs any better than my Fiskars X7 can, nor can it split logs bigger than the X7 can handle. Using it for delimbing or cutting down saplings was the same result, it can do it but the extra weight over the X7 brings nothing extra to the table. In the end the whole reason I bought this axe was because I could not find a comparable Fiskars model, perhaps I would have a different opinion if I had received the chopping model but as it stands I don’t really see a use for this specific model.
