Great Design
By Kurt on Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2020
This cover has an excellent and easy to use design. Did not get to test much of the water proofing ability besides some snow but it seemed to shed water well. My only complaint is that it needs to be made of a tougher or thicker material. After 1 weekend backpacking trip I have some holes in it from leaning my bag against some rocks despite being very careful not to tear the material. It was fine setting the back in the dirt and snow but any abrasive material and it seemed to tear fairly easy. UPDATE: Gryps-Us reached out to me of their own accord apologizing for the issue I had and offered to send me 2 replacements. That is excellent customer service! As I stated above I really like the design of these covers, it fits my 65L bag perfect. The buckles at the top mean that you can lift the bottom out of the way to access pockets without completely removing the cover and then easily wrap it back around your bag. Needless to say, I can’t wait to get back out on the trails with the new cover! Thank you Gryps-US!

Fabric & design not great
By Lucubration on Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2024
Unfortunately I lost my previous rain cover; it was a simpler design than this -- and, I thought, better than this. For one thing, the fabric on this Evotopf is some kind of weird, slightly stiff, crinkly stuff with a silvery coating on the inside; maybe there's nothing wrong with that but it feels cheap to me. (My previous one was made out of easily foldable soft cloth and was still perfectly waterproof.) Looking at the seams on this Evotopf, they use a separate edging strip (rather than selvage) to protect the cloth edge -- nothing wrong with that, but where it ends it doesn't meet or overlap the beginning properly: there's a little extra edging that sticks out at an angle from the seam. To me that's a sign of poor construction. But the biggest problem I have with this is the buckle design. It's a clever idea, to cinch it tightly just below where the backpack's straps attach near the top of the pack. However, every kind of pack is a little different, and on my backpack (despite being the right size overall for this rain cover) there's still a small unprotected area above the buckle. In other words, the buckle's straps aren't attached "high" enough, or close enough to one edge, to really cinch tightly below where the backpack straps start. With my old (simpler) rain cover, I simply cinched it tight under the straps using two small binder clips, which worked great. This Evotopf's buckle adds weight, bulk, and complexity to the rain cover, yet does not quite do what it's supposed to, and gets in the way of my using binder clips. I probably won't bother returning it, but I certainly wouldn't buy it again.
