Very Nice

I purchased this to replace a Cabela's Fish Eagle casting rod of similar weight and action. To give you an idea of how much I liked the Fish Eagle, I had two of them, both rigged with Lew's Super Duty Speed Spool reels. If 4" of the Fish Eagle rod's tip hadn't broke off this purchase wouldn't have been considered but it really worked out for the best. This rod is so much better conceived and built I'm considering buying another and dumping the other Fish Eagle. First of all, I fish Northern Pike, and in the process catch a lot of bass. A big fish for me is 15 pounds with most coming in under that and I mostly fish 1/4 to 3/8 oz spinner baits and buzzers on 20 pound KastKing braided line. I find this rod perfect for my needs in lure placement, sensitivity, and strength to tire out hooked fish and steer them into the net. It's very well built, with solid, top quality guides and a great grip. I like the grayed-out blank and its tactile feel. Green and black thread accents are really sharp looking. It's been said a fishing rod without a cork grip is like a boot without leather (Mucks?) and while I appreciate the look, function and tradition of a cork grip I have nothing but good to say about this "golf club" like grip covering. I like that it's comfortable with my index finger ahead of the "trigger" for casting but also comfortable choked-up, with my middle finger ahead of the trigger for retrieval. There's not a single bad thing I can say about this rod and how well packaged it was for delivery. The reason I include what I fish for and with is it's a crap shoot buying something like this online without being able to feel the action first. When one reviewer commented the medium heavy was like a "broom handle" I went for the medium and this is perfect. As I phase away from Cabela's now that the brothers have sold out to Bass Pro and their products and service have gone to hell, it was a pleasure to find this well made and well functioning piece of fishing equipment.

Didn't hold up to specs

I was so excited to purchase this rod as i was looking to get into throwing larger swim baits. The rod was received on Dec. 4. It was excellently packaged and was correct to what i had ordered, the 791MHC with a lure rating of 1/2 - 3oz. I was able to make two trips in December and the rod seemed to perform as expected. It was light weight, comfortable to cast and was handling the 2oz. soft body swim bait without issue. Then came my trip on Jan. 1st. it was beautifully and unexpectedly warm day. I had the same 2oz swim bait i had been using on the previous two trips and my first few casts were fine. Then on the forth cast, SNAP. The rod broke right in the middle between the tip and second guide. The break looked like a stress break where the carbon fiber looked torn apart. I was dismayed because i was not aggressively casting the swim bait, more of a slow side hand lob as the weight of the bait made sure i had the distance i needed. Alas what was promised to become one of my favorite rods was gone in an instant. Will be making a report to Piscifun and i would still consider their line of rods but maybe back off what printed lure rating. It was comfortable and light, only other regret is i was not able to hook into and land a fish with it.
