Best Sunglasses I've owned!
By Roger D Shipman on Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2025
So a few years ago I purchased a pair of these and really liked the way the lenses curved around the sides to give almost total protection from the sun. Being Oakley they were a bit pricey. I've bought probably 10 or more pair of cheaper brands and never had the total sun blockage like this Oakley lense/style provided. Last week I saw them here on Amazon for a very reasonable price and, though a bit skeptical, went ahead and ordered them. I got them delivered today and am pleased to say they are exactly the same fit and lense type as before!

Yes they are real but they are also different

This is a "backup" purchase for me. I have had these Flak Betas for a long time, and been on the shelf due to scratched lenses. I happened across some cheaper non-Oakley replacements, and sure enough, they were excellent. I saw these 'replacement' glasses up here for a really reasonable price, and so I thought I'd grab a pair since I now have a 5 pack of other lenses. Made sense. When I received these, the box was unsurprisingly smashed. Inside were the glasses, and they appeared unharmed. They were in an Oakley bag, and had the left arm in a plastic sleeve.I read on here that a few people were saying "counterfeit" and "cheap". Now I get it. The glasses I bought some time ago have a different plastic composite. The originals feel smooth to the touch, and are a bit glossy. You'll see in the picture that the older version are reflective of light, and the new ones are matted. The plastic composition feels the same mass, same flexibility, and same shape. However the new, matte pair "feel cheap" in the sense that many "cheap" sunglasses I've purchased have felt like this plastic.I can't answer whether *all* Flak Betas now feel this way, but the pair here have that difference. Maybe it's the one version to have as an "entry level" Oakley? I don't know, but I still feel like I got what I paid for (and no more) given how much less this particular pair are. Also, if you lightly rub a fingernail on the arm of the old pair, it's quiet. On the new pair, it's noticeably audible. I don't know my plastics well, but if you've tried various levels of glasses, this will make sense.
