Good starting bike for cycle touring
By Ian Slingsby on Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2017
I am fairly serious cyclist I wanted a touring bike look at lots of options decided to use this bike as project. I imported the bike to Australia for modification arrived in standard bike box packaging well packed and additional protection to protect the frame with film frame. Assembly of the bike is qucik and simple if you know bikes bars pedals and front rack nice snug fit purpose designed for the frame. The bike is pretty much good to go gears were right first time albeit a little tweak on the front mech. The discs need attention on set up and I guess this where you may need to visit your loacl bike shop if your not mechanical with bikes. Warning this bike is not light but what do you expect for the price and if you just want a bike out the box for tracks / touring ii would recommend for the price. This is a project so the wheels drive train brakes will be replaced with lighter more expensive parts but what attracted me to this bike was the frame set lots of bosses for mounting cages etc. and the finish is nice the top bar bag is ok fr a day ride but serious touring use you would need to change it well secured to the frame by fram mounts looking at the descrition on amazon there's a bit of info missing so for anyone intrested her is some addtional: It's one size 54 cm but lots of adjustment extra long seat post. tyres are fairly basic Chinese 40 mm but functional brake is std size you can replace easily if you want to use shimano type hollow chainset gears are bottom line shimano but really good for the price point shifters are Microshift not shimano take a bit of getting used to but very functional and positive. Saddle is plastic coated by very comfortable and ni branding touches. The front rack looks bomb proof and is well welded and powder coated.

Expensive for the level of parts, awesome frame
By JamesD on Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2019
Just to note: I’m a bike mechanic and did everything myself. I recommend you take the bike to a bike mechanic for tuning, installation, and fitting. The bike can be easily assembled and ready to go out of the box, but if you want a problem free ride ASAP, just take it to a professional. Now with that disclaimer out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff. Great bike, but it is overpriced for the parts it contains. I also purchased my wife a Schwinn from Walmart for $200, it has the same operating parts as the $500 Mongoose. That was disappointing. I pretty much bought this bike for the frame and fork. Perfect for beginners to learn and knock around without worrying about it. I had no problem with the tires. I put around 40psi to start, rode around, then filled to 58psi. Next day too the bike with kids in tow on a short 16 mile ride. I had extra parts lying around so I swapped it bike to 10 speeds (cassette, derailleur, shifters) installed different seat. The brakes take some time to break in so you’ll have to ignore the sounds from them while riding and stopping. This is normal. I am 5’9” and the bike fits perfect. (Again, I know how to properly set up bike fit) I can think of zero issues with the bike out of the box that can’t be easily handled with a professional assembly, tuning and fitting. I gave the bike 3 stars because of how overpriced it is compared to the equal level $200 Walmart Schwinn. For $500, the bike could have more speeds (at least 10) better brakes, and shifters. Note, there’s no need to change anything, but I’m a bike snob (other bike is a “look tri bike”) so I did.
