Holosun Open Reflex Optical Sight

Update: 01/09/22: Warning! Holosun sights boxes are factory shipped with clear plastic wrap. If you receive a "new" Holosun without the clear plastic wrap it's either a used returned or counterfeit. Sight arrived with a bunch of dinks and chips exposing bare metal in the housing under the front lens. Have a few $80 red dots that arrived with flawless finishes. Not sure is this is a counterfeit or a return being sold as new. Should be noted Holosun is being sold through a 3rd party distributor via amazon. The electronics and display work as designed and seems to be good quality. Although finish quality control is lacking and not acceptable for a red dot sight in this price range. Poor and dinked up housing finishes appear to be a common issue with Holosun reading the reviews. Reached out to Holosun customer service awaiting to hear from them. Will update when I hear back. Update #1: No response from Holosun CS. Returned sight to Amazon and requested a replacement. Will update when 2nd "new" sight arrives. Update #2: Second replacement "new" sight arrived. Finish wasn't chipped and beat up like the first one. Didn't come with a battery. First sight came with new battery in a plastic bag. This made me suspicious. I carefully checked and looks like the battery compartment cover was previously opened based on the small scrape marks on the battery cover. Installed a new battery electronics worked ok. Another curious thing I discovered is the auto shut off time was set for 12 hours. Factory defaulted is 10 minutes per the manual. Somehow the auto shut off time was manually changed. The first sight that was sent back to Amazon was set for 10 minutes out of the box. I can't say for sure but it appears the sight had been put on a Picatinny rail at some point. The rail attachment points black finish had minor scuff marks with bare metal showing. Not significant enough to return but none the less... not factory fresh. Using it on a 9mm PCC and didn't have any issues sighting it in for 100 yards. The windage was right on and only a minor elevation adjustment necessary. After 250 round it was still holding zero. Not crazy about the red dot auto intensity illumination function. Shooting at an outdoor range with an overhang roof (shading the shooter) causes the red dot to dim making it difficult to see in bright daylight. Had to disable the auto dim function. Might be ok for indoor shooting. The auto timed shut off is a nice feature. The slightest movement wakes up the sight. Again, this can be disabled if it's not your cup of tea. Glass quality is very good. No distortion or halo that I can see. All in all its a very nice red dot with some nice features usually found on $500-$600 red dots. I'm not 100% convinced this is a factory new unit. My gut feeling is it's refurbished being sold as new. This bothers me... paying $300+ for a possible refurb. Holosun returns, refurbs and counterfeit concerns are shared by others in the reviews. As far as Holosun customer service... zero. Tried calling at different times of the day... no answer or went to voicemail. If the sight fails after the 30 day Amazon return window you are probably out of luck.
