Great Companion to the PowerBlock Dumbbells – Functional, Durable, and Worth It
By Robes Deez on Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2025
I bought the PowerBlock Large Compact Stand along with my PowerBlock EXP Stage 1 Adjustable Dumbbell Set back in 2020 as part of my home gym setup during COVID, and it’s been a rock-solid addition ever since. I already left a review for the dumbbells (which I still love), but the stand deserves its own praise—this thing really pulls the setup together. Functionally, it makes a big difference. Before I had the stand, I was using the dumbbells off the floor, and while that worked, it wasn’t ideal. Constantly bending over to adjust the weights or pick them up got old fast. Once I added the stand, everything became easier and more ergonomic. The height is just right—no more awkward crouching or fumbling with the selector pin at floor level. It streamlines every workout. Durability-wise, this stand is built like a tank. The steel frame is solid, the finish has held up well, and it still looks almost new after years of use. It doesn’t wobble or shift, even during fast-paced workouts. The shelf surface is tough and handles the weight of the dumbbells without flinching. I've accidentally dropped weights onto it a few times, and it barely shows a mark. The design is compact, which is a huge plus in a smaller home gym space. It holds the EXP Stage 1 dumbbells perfectly with room to spare, and there’s even some extra space underneath for storing a few smaller items like resistance bands or yoga blocks. I also appreciate the clean, simple look—it fits in with the rest of my gear without being bulky or in the way. If you’ve already invested in the PowerBlock dumbbells, I really think the stand is worth getting. It keeps things organized, saves your back, and just makes the whole setup more professional and user-friendly. For something I initially thought of as optional, it turned out to be one of those pieces of equipment I wouldn't want to go without. This was part of my 2020 COVID purchase, and like the dumbbells, it’s held up over time and continues to be a key part of my workouts. Highly recommend it if you want to get the most out of your PowerBlocks.

Not good when fatigued
By CatDadMM on Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2023
The biggest negative: Having to bend my back forward over the stand to get the PowerBlocks in and out. I tried this stand in a store with 50lb PowerBlocks and it felt fine. Light weight and I wasn't tired. I have 90lb PowerBlocks. When using anything less than 90, the dumbbells have to be lifted up over the unused blocks on the stand. After multiple sets, when I was fatigued, bending over forward to slot the 80lb PowerBlocks into the unused 10lb block on the stand got sketchy. This was a back strain waiting to happen. I ended up buying a PowerBlock PowerMax stand, which is a much better design, allowing me to get between the two platforms to remove & replace the dumbbells with my back in a good position. For context, my workouts are far more extreme than most people. At the end of my workouts I'm typically wrecked. So, this stand might work fine for you. It's inexpensive and compact. It just did not work for me.
