I purchased the four-pack of these for my daughter, who's been stuck at Level 4 as a gymnast because she just hasn't been able to build up enough upper body strength to do pull-ups on the uneven parallel bars to move to Level 5. Pull-ups can be a bit of a catch-22 to master because if you don't already possess enough upper body strength to do a pull-up, you can't do a pull-up to build the upper body strength to do them. Her coach recommended we try out these bands and they work wonderfully (we bought the 4-pack). To use these for pull-ups, you slip-tie one end around the bar, pull yourself up, and put one foot in the lower end of the long elastic. Then you do pull-ups as usual, only the different levels of resistance in the band help offset some of your body weight so you can still do pull-ups with a slightly reduced load. Right now she is using the purple one to get her repetitions, and then using the black band to get those last few pull-ups in at a higher weight. Already she has seen rapid improvement when doing her flyaways on the uneven parallel bars (that's when the gymnast leaps from the lower bar to the higher one, and then swings to fly off the upper bar to do a somersault mid-air and then land). Her coach hopes to phase her down to the red band by the end of the summer, and then no band will be needed for pull-ups. Once caveat about using these bands for pull-ups. Keep your body straight up-and-down or you'll lose effectiveness. Don't bend or you'll engage the wrong muscles.
