A good inexpensive rowing machine.

I've had my Stamina 1402 for six weeks now. First of all, I think it's a fine, sturdy machine. It was fairly easy to put together even by one person. Once together, it glides very smoothly and has a good amount of resistance. No damper needed - the harder I pull the more resistance the machine gives back. In six weeks of using it daily for thirty minutes it's given me no issues at all. I'm very pleased with it and consider it a good buy for my cardio workouts.
There a a very few things I don't care for but can live with. For me, at 5" 10, it's difficult to get into a proper catch position - I think the footbeds are mounted too high and there is no adjustment like a Concept II has. I may turn the footrests upside down to bring my heels closer to the floor. I don't care much either for the pivoting footrests, but that's certainly something I can live with and I'm able to get a strong drive with my legs. One thing I'd suggest, as others have mentioned is to switch the footrests from left to right to make it easier to strap in.
All in all, with a couple of modifications to the foot beds, I feel that this is a machine that gives me a good workout, and should last a long time.

Do not buy

AVOID this unit, poor quality, came defective, not backed by support, and I was tricked into not returning it within Amazon's return window. My unit came with one of the sensors not working - it would not count rows. I called customer support upon setup and went through troubleshooting. They ultimately told me they would send me a new part. Weeks later I'd heard nothing so following up, they said the part was back ordered and they hope to have it in 4-8 weeks. I finally received the part about 10 weeks after initial call. The part came unmarked with no instructions. Just a wire sensor in a package. Upon initial examination the part was clearly not the same part I have in the unit, the wire length is about 12 inches shorter (see picture) and will not actually run the required length from the row sensor, through the inside of the machine, and to the display function. Furthermore, installation would require extensive work - taking apart the entire machine to run the cable through ties within the housing to get to the display. Nevertheless to test, I ran the cable outside the unit direct to the display.It still does not work. The company has stopped responding to me. I have contacted AMAZON and they told me they can't do anything because it's out of the return window, and that I need to work with the company to claim my warranty. This is the company that has stopped responding to me. I've never been disappointed in Amazon before, but now I have. Times must be changing with their commitment to customers.
Bottom line: AVOID this product. If you do decide to buy it and anything doesn't work don't bother with customer support, and return product immediately. Don't allow them to tell you they can fix it by sending you parts, which puts the risk on you, and labor on you.
