It's a Camera Bag, School Bag, Gym Bag for me!
By Emilio M. on Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2015
First off I bought a small and with the color Grey Solstice. The color is true on the picture posted on Amazon. I bought this bag mainly for it being a camera messenger bag. The cool thing with Timbuk2 is that they make a camera insert for their messenger bags. I bought the extra small Snoop camera insert and it fits inside the bag with some space left. This is great for holding additional items in my bag while shooting. When I was browsing online one of the key things was the bag had to be water proof. This bag is! When i opened up my package the first thing i did was spray it with my faucets spray head on the front and on the side. The grey material in front is water resistant at first but then it soaks up the water. Underneath the grey material is the TPU liner which is water proof so nothing gets through. When I sprayed it from the side the flap corners did their job, but underneath the main flap the TPU liner had a little bit of water, which could potentially get to the contents of your bag. Though keep in mind that the faucet spray head sends out monsoon like rain. I'm taking summer classes in Austin so I wanted this bag to be versatile and change purposes for me. I usually bike to class and with the cross strap given I'm able to enjoy my ride without any swinging of the bag. This bag holds my 13 inch MacBook Pro, 1 medium sized book, 1 Notebook, 1 Folder, and a pair of Jeans. It can hold one more medium sized book, but you are pushing it's limits then. I also use this bag for the gym and it has more than enough space for my gym clothes and other workout items. The only con I found with this bag are the water bottle holders inside the bag. The holders can pretty much only carry the plastic Ozarka, Nestle, plastic water bottles. That is about as wide as those water bottles holders extend to. The holders can fit my camelbak podium big chill inside, but i feel like it's going to rip with continuous use. It's a small con for me usually i get around it by just filling my big water bottle up with ice and then just placing it in the bag and not in the holders. Once i get into school or the gym i just fill it up there. I do this because i feel that that the water bottle may leak in my bag. I could just use a plastic water bottle, but i don't get as many ounces of water. Anyways this bag is amazing with all it's nifty organizers! Also the main outside pocket has another zippered pocket underneath it so that you can reach this pocket without opening your bag up. I like how it serves many purposes for me and how it does it's job well for protecting me from potential heavy downfalls! Thanks Timbuk2!

Still needs more improvements
By Jeff Moritz on Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2014
I was initially impressed when I first received this bag a week ago. However, after using it for a few days I have decided to return it. I have since replaced it with the Timbuk2 Command TSA-Friendly Messenger Bag, which has a much better pocket and carrying handle design (but not as nice carry-strap design). Cons: 1. The inner pockets are only located on the front inside face of the bag. There are two narrow "pencil" pockets in the center that are 2-in wide and 5-in high and two slightly larger pockets on each side of the "pencil" pockets that are 4-in wide and 5-in high and are too narrow and too shallow to hold anything useful. I could not fit my wallet nor my laptop mouse in any of these interior pockets. I eventually used one of the two internal water bottle pockets for the mouse. There is a zipper pocket behind these where I eventually put all of the loose items that should have otherwise fit in the outer pockets. 2. The outer pockets are also only located on the front outside face of the bag. There is one open pocket that is 6-in wide by 6-in high, one zipper pocket over it that is 6-in wide by 5-1/2-in high, and a Napoleon side zipper pocket that is 9-in wide by 6-in high behind both of these. The outer pockets were the only pockets that were large enough to hold my normal-sized wallet. But with my wallet inside the front zipper pocket the other front pockets were not very useful because they were right behind the wallet and the wallet put too much pressure on the other two pockets for them to be used for anything thicker than a USB thumb drive. 3. Because of the poor distribution of pockets, the bag was front-heavy and kept falling forward on its face, even with a laptop stowed in the back slot of the bag. 4. Every time you lift the front flap you get to listen to the sound of tearing Velcro. 5. The low profile grab handle is too far down the back making you have to search for it to grab the bag as it is falling forward (due to the bag being too front-heavy). 6. I ordered the small size bag and it did not come with the cross-strap as it should have, which indicates a quality-control problem. Pros: 1. The bag is very light in weight. 2. The outside Napoleon zip pocket was ideal for holding my checkbook for quick access. 2. The quick-release cam strap release was really nice and worked very smoothly and intuitively. It allows the strap to extend to a length greater than what I need and when pulled upwards it hides the excess strap length conveniently. 3. I liked the recessed quick-release buckle snaps on the underside of the flap. 4. I ordered the Diablo version and, for my tastes, I think that it is a beautiful bag. 5. Timbuk2 customer support was very helpful in replacing the missing cross-strap within two days of my phone call to them. Suggestions for improvement: 1. Widen and deepen the size of both the interior and exterior pockets to make them able to hold and conceal larger items. The front pocket area could be extended by 4-inches in width and 1 to 2 inches in height. 2. Put pockets in the face of the inside divider to distribute the load better. Put pockets on the outside back of the bag. 3. Remove one of the pencil pockets and use that space to make the pockets to either side of it a usable width. Deepen the interior pockets. 4. Either replace the low profile grab handle with a handle like you have on the Timbuk2 Command TSA-Friendly Messenger bag or move it to the top of the bag.
