Great for frequent travelers

When I received my ChargeLight the first thing that caught my eye was the packaging. Unboxing the charge light was reminiscent of the iPhone – minimalistic, high quality packaging. Charging the ChargeLight was as simple as placing it in the charging station. The charge light feels pretty loose when in the charging station; however bumping the ChargeLight doesn’t seem disrupt the charging. It’s easy to determine if the ChargeLight is charged: Green light = charged and red = not fully charged. The flashlight has 3 different brightness modes and a strobe mode. The brightness of the charge light and focus of the beam of light are adequate for everything I need to do around the house or when I’m traveling. I haven’t found a use for the strobe mode, but my dogs seem to enjoy strobe mode. I am a frequent traveler and the one thing that makes the ChargeLight awesome is that not only is it a flashlight, but I can recharge my iPhone and iPad while I’m traveling. This is a huge plus! I don’t have to worry about my iPhone or iPad dying on me during a long drive or flight. Even if my phone makes it through the flight it may not make it after I land, so it’s nice to have the ChargeLight on hand to give my phone a quick charge on the go. Another bonus for a frequent traveler is that the charging station and the ChargeLight are small and light weight. The ChargeLight also has a USB port on the charging station so I don’t have to find a second plug in a hotel room to charge my phone in addition to my ChargeLight; because everyone knows that plugs are so convenient and plentiful in a hotel room *sarcasm*. Overall great product that feels well built. I highly recommend for any road warrior out there.

Works well, but beware...

I have a mixed opinion on this product. THE GOOD It's really well made and has a nice solid feel. The charging cradle and pogo pins ensures minimal wear on the USB ports. The included 10W (2A) USB adaptor has enough juice to charge the light itself and another smaller device such as a cellphone. If you do find yourself charging it away from the cradle, the designers were thoughtful enough to use the near-universal micro-USB port (instead of the usual mini-USB port) so you can carry but one cable. The flashlight was both sufficiently powerful for a multitude of tasks and also threw most of the light in an extremely wide beam useful for most tasks. The designers even resisted the temptation to include an SOS mode that you immediately hate after the first time you scroll through all the other modes. The powerbank charged everything I tested it with at what seemed to be its advertised 1A rate. NOCO really did present this as a polished, premium product with the packaging, fit and finish, attention to details, and design execution. Unfortunately, there are downsides. THE BAD Mine has a slow flicker on medium and low modes - once at the rate of a rapid blink every 1/4 to 2 seconds. It initially only manifested itself whenever I scrolled all the way through the modes quickly and turned it back on, but progressed to a constant flicker within 2 days. Since high and strobe behaved consistently, the light did not seem to use PWM (Pulse Width Modulation - essentially a very rapid strobing) for medium and low brightness modes, it was always well-charged, and never ran long enough to get terrifically hot, I could only conclude that it was some sort of issue with the current controller. Another concerning aspect was the apparent lack of manufacturer support. The website for the product - chargelight.com - redirects to this very page and the product registration URL mentioned in the product manual (chargelight.com/register) returns a 500 server error. Looking at NOCO USA's website, there is zero mention of ChargeLight (nor their apparently-related XGrid products). Two of their three social media links are down and the third (LinkedIn) last indirectly mentions ChargeLight (and XGrid) some 8 months ago. THE TAKEAWAY Based on my limited experience, this looks to be a good product, but you're playing the lottery ... maybe it will work flawlessly and never give you problems, but if it does the manufacturer may not stand behind their wares.
