Top Quality & Value!

I've always bought inexpensive, but functional LED flashlights. You know, the type that take 3 AAA batteries, allow you to adjust for a wide or narrow beam that are amazingly bright for a very short period but drop off quickly. The ones that project an odd shaped, square or rectangular, beam with dark vertical lines due to the design of the LED they use. I've wanted to try a better light but haven't been able to make myself spend the money, that is until I saw this 300 lumen model as one of the Deal's Of The Day. But since there was only an hour or so before the sale ended I pulled the trigger without doing my usual research first. But I'm very glad I did, even though I found out afterwards the company had just recently "upgraded?" this model from 300 lumens to 600 lumens. The reason I'm not disappointed is because I discovered a high quality well focused 300 lumen flashlight is very bright and a pleasure to use. And I don't miss the ability to adjust the beam because this light provides a "pure" beam without any shape issues and without any dark areas and provides excellent visibility both near and far. The other reason I''m not disappointed is of course because I get more time per battery at 300 lumens than at 600 lumens. I've found the benefits of a light of this quality are first, the quality of the beam but second, the quality of the materials and the technology used throughout. The materials and technology means it can successfully survive drops and rough treatment and should last many many years. I mean it doesn't use a traditional filament that can fail/break from rough use, it uses springs on both ends of the battery to protect the battery from damage due to shock, the body is tought and solidly built, the lense is essentially unbreakable, etc. It's odd that I've always been the type who'd rather buy quality than repeatedly buy and replace inexpensive products, except when it came to flashlights. But, once again, I've proven to myself the "buy quality" philosophy applies, even with flashlights. Again, the new versions of this model are 600 lumen but, having now experienced a good 300 lumen light, I prefer the extended battery life of this light over any benefits a 600 lumen light provide. Lastly, i know this light is available without the dual power settings but I find the lower setting is often sufficient for the task at hand and appreciate the increased battery life it provides. This is another product that shows the best products are made in the USA.

Not my old Sure Fire

I should have done some reasearch first. I assumed this was the updated 6P which I've owned for several years. It is similar but the head and bezel are not intended to be removed, so if yo are a 6P fan that may come as a disappointment. It was for me as I bought a 650 lumen drop-in at the same time. I'll buy another flashlight for that or use it in the 6P. Also know that the dual mode, while great for saving batteries and general lower lumen needs, is a mistake if you weapon mount a light. You want a single mode emitter for that. The tailcap on the 6PX is very hard to depress compared to the 6P, such that wives and kids will struggle with cycling the switch and they will not be one hand activating it unless unusually able. You won't have to worry about unintentional activation which is a plus. The finish is smooth, downright slippery compared to a 6P with zero checkered knurling. As for the 320 lumen rating all I can compare it to is a 6P with a single stage 225 lumen R2 drop-in that is a couple of years old. The 6PX is what I'll call cooler but that may be incorrect for LED terminology, the 6Px is browner, less white. It does cast wider than the R2 with more light outboard of the central beam focus and color rendition is a little better than the R2. It ends there though. The central beam on the R2 has more reach so if you need that, the emitter is inferior to the lesser rated R2. That compare is with new (3 year old but likely of no real capacity loss) SF123A batteries in the 6P and presumably more recent manufacture batteries of the same make in the new 6PX. One other thing the old 6P fans should be aware is this is a click only tailpiece on the 6PX. You can't twist it to constant on, that is a click procedure now. I gave this flashlight 3 stars due to the inflexability of upgrades, the fact that it does not have sufficient grip traction, and the difficulty in activating the switch. Other than that it is a decent enough light. I doubt any 6P owner would be enthralled with it, particularily if you are upgrade or tactical use prone. I really could have given it two stars but they still make the 6P, so I gave them some slack. Need I say, I would not consider buying this light again. Sorry Sure Fire, it does not meet my impression and understanding of your old standards. You set that bar rather high and you missed it with this product.
