Kelty Acadia 6-Person Tent

There were two things I was looking for when searching for a tent: (1) waterproof, and (2) lots of space. This tent delivers on both. Size ----- This is a 6-person tent, but realistically it's the right size for a family of 4 with enough room for clothes, shoes, and other things in the tent without crowding everyone out. This was an upgrade from a 4-person tent that was incredibly tight for 2 adults and 2 small children. I am able to easily stand up in this tent and I am 5'8". Setup ------- This tent goes up fairly quickly and was intuitive enough to figure out without the instructions. Like a similar reviewer said, I'd toss the tent stakes that come with this tent and get something better. A cheap upgrade ($8?). The rainfly goes on easily and stays in place with a combination of quick release clips, velcro straps, and stakes in the ground. Quality --------- The quality of this tent seems pretty reasonable. The zippers work very well and seem to be the best quality I've had on a tent thus far. Only time will tell how the rest of the tent holds up. Waterproof --------------- We used this for 2 nights in a decent amount of rain. The tent remained perfectly dry without a single drop getting inside. This is the only tent I've ever had that keeps me dry. I think the key here is the rainfly providing another layer that sits over the top of the tent and reaches all the way to the ground. In my previous tents that were "waterproof", there was no rainfly that went all the way to the ground... only partway down from the top. Thus the sides of the tent get rained on and as soon as you touch the side, water comes through. This is impossible with this tent. You can't touch the rainfly from inside the tent, thus you stay dry no matter what. I really appreciate that the rainfly comes down and creates kind of a "porch" area right outside the door that you can use to put down a mat or the likes and store your shoes outside the tent without worrying about them getting wet. Dislikes ---------- The bottom of this tent is a fairly thin material. And although the seams are taped, it is not a "tarp" like material that I've had on other tents. I would not put this tent directly on the ground for fear of having a stick, or rock or something poke a hole through it. Thus a tarp is required underneath. Summary ------------ Overall I am very happy with this tent. It's nice to know that no matter what kind of rain comes (and we get a lot here) I will always stay dry!
