Outstanding Quality and Value

This unit is actually made to Picatinny standards- a very good move by Weaver. The unit has a recoil lug that sits behind the front receiver ring. This will help relieve recoil stress from the mounting screws - also a very good move. I wanted a one-piece rail for my 7mm Rem Mag S&W1500 (=HOWA1500 = VANGUARD) because I previously have had trouble with receiver flexure damaging scopes on a Win70 416RemMag. The S&W1500 in 7mmRemMag uses the same mounts as the Remington 700LA. This is a beefy unit that will definitely add strength to the overall assembly. The screws fit the receiver without modification, with the front screws positioned to put the recoil lug snugly against the front receiver ring. I did modify the unit by filing ~.020 off the rearmost land to enable lower mounting of my scope. In doing this I discovered that they were not kidding about "Hard Anodized" it was tough to get the file started, but milled as normal aircraft-grade aluminum after I got through the coating. This base is made to slope 20 MOA relative to the bore, to bias the scope's adjustment range for long range - a feature I wanted. If you do not plan on 1000 yard shots, this is probably not the mount for you. Other manufacturers charge three times as much for no improvement in quality. Fit and finish is perfect on this unit.

Unfortunately a bit of a disappointment...

I was pretty excited when I found this and read that it fit the Remington LA 700. I have the ADL 30.06 and this with the extended adjustable area would be perfect for my new Vortex scope. Upon receiving it and mocking it up I realized that the bosses for the screws are slightly off (or the tap on my rifle was done poorly at Remington) and will not mount up without stripping either the threads in the receiver or the screws out of the box. With hunting season right around the corner I opted to modify mine so a return is out of the question. I just don't have time and I need to dial this rifle in so that I am confident with it. So, if you are shooting a Remington 700 ADL long action take heed that unless you want to do some additional modifications this would not fit my rifle out of the box and it may not fit yours either. Maybe it's Remington's issue and the holes in my rifle were tapped slightly off I really can't say but either way it was a bit of a disappointment. My rifle was tapped for a scope from the factory. With a little creative file and dremel work this can easily be fit to work and be secure but if I had known this going in I would have purchased another mount. All of the holes were off by the same amount and were butting up to the forward most part of the mount by just a hair. By removing some of the lip from the underside of it that secures at the chamber I was able to mount it successfully. Not optimum but I am confident that it will hold and not shift around. On the plus side the mount seems to be very made and the rings fit perfectly. The machining seems good and I don't anticipate many would want or need to bed this mount unless the receiver surface is in question. Delivery was fast and packaging was good. No issues there at all. I have attached a photo of the mounting point for the screws to show where they sat mounted on my rifle. The pic is the best I could do and although it looks as if it may just make it there it definitely did not.
