This review is for the GunVault NV100 purchased through Amazon. It is just the right size to fit my Bersa Thunder 380 and 2 magazines with a bit of room left over for extra ammo if needed. The Pros: 1.) The price! Looked at a comparable product at a local outfitter with a huge gun shop and the price was more than double for what looked to be the same product just different brand name. 2.) Seems very sturdy. The lock latch turns into a slot that is steel making it difficult to pry open. 3.) The cable is a huge plus. The hole that the cable slides through when attached to the locking mechanism is no bigger than the cable itself. It is a bit of a push to get the cable around the mechanism making it impossible to wiggle it off when closed. 4.) The padding is just enough to keep guns and clips from moving around. I did not try it on smaller items to know if it secures them as well. Also, the padding can be removed so it can be replaced with something else if so desired. 5.) Has a small drainage or air hole on bottom that is NOT big enough to be used to gain entry. Cons: 1.) When I first put the cable on the locking mechanism and closed it, the steel piece the lock latch slides into rubbed against the cable to close which made it difficult to close completely and then very difficult to open. However, with a simple push on the steel, it moved it just that tiny bit to fix the problem and no longer rubs. 2.) The hinge seems to be the biggest weakness. However, it would take bit of time, so it is only a weakness if they are able to grab and go. (I also purchased the GunVault NV200 for a larger handgun. The cable did not interfere with this model at all and again, fit perfectly with some room to spare.) I am really happy with this product especially given the price. I did not expect it to be as good of a product as it is because the price was so low. I read other comments stating it was flimsy, etc. Maybe they got a different product but this one is in no way flimsy. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

STINKS BAD

The box itself gets 3 stars. Considering the intended use, it is satisfactory. Despite the hinge on the short side, it is not wobbly. The side 'guides' align the lid when it closes and keep it from sliding out of alignment. The lock mechanism functions ok, but it is obviously low quality. The cylinder is loose inside the lock body, it just feels cheap. The locking tab is small, and there is very little engagement. Although this is not a high security box, it would take very little extra to make it much more secure. Ok now for the big complaint - it stinks. Literally. When I opened it the first time, I almost threw up. I think it's the foam, or the coating on the cable, or both. Both items have a strong putrid smell that can be described as a mix of vomit, feces, and plasticizer. The plastic part of the keys also pick up the smell. It was so bad that I immediately threw the foam and cable away, and wiped out the interior with industrial alcohol. I am going to have to air it out in the sun for a couple days. I don't know what causes the smell, but it can't be good for your health. This is made in China, and probably the best example of why we should make products in the US. I would not buy this again, and I will not buy any products from Gun Vault ever again, nor will I recommend them to anyone. UPDATE: I tried every possible way to clean the keys - solvents, soaps - nothing worked. I threw the box away. Not even worth a refund. I also bought an NV100 at the same time, it had the exact same horrible smell, so it's not a fluke. I would give this zero stars if I could.
