SOG Revolver Hunter Knife

I learned about this knife when Reallybigmonkey1 referenced it in one of his Youtube videos. I wanted a couple of back-up knives that weren’t Morakniv knives or scandigrind and I thought that if he liked it, it was good enough for me.Though under-impressed at first, the more I use this knife, the better I like it. “SOG Revolver Hunter Fixed Blade FX20N-CP - Revolving 4.75" Blade w/ Gut Hook & Saw, GRN Handle, Nylon Sheath included” has many ways to make itself useful that I didn’t consider. It came to me sharpened, but I ran it through a WorkSharp™ sharpener anyway. The blade is strong and long enough for most tasks. I’ve been using it a lot and it is still very sharp without resharpening. The saw’s stroke is short, but it works well.I feel stupid because it took me 10 minutes to find the handle-button release that allows the blade to switch to the saw and back again. I just couldn’t see it in dim lighting and I had to look at YouTube reviews until I found one that pointed to the button’s exact position on the handle. It’s clearly labeled “RELEASE” and is flush with the handle.Quite a few ferrocerium rods are sold without strikers or with poor strikers. There’s an unsharpened place near the base of the blade that can be used to strike a ferro rod with great effectiveness. The hilt prevents your stroke from wandering off of small rods and locks the downward slide. Lots of sparks from an inch of space. Another plus for the SOG Revolver/Hunter.A little while ago, I was deep into the woods and my right calf and both feet swelled overnight unexpectedly and I couldn’t get my boots back on in the morning. I had to cut the boots, so I could wear them to walk out. I didn’t want to hack up the boots, but I wasn’t doing very well until I tried using the gut hook to slice through the leather. It was amazing how easily the gut hook slid right through and allowed for perfect control. The SOG Revolver certainly made my life better that day.This knife seems to be durable. I think it’s sufficiently balanced in hand. The pin hasn’t presented with any problems and I don’t anticipate any. The hook and loop sheath is fairly good quality, attaches to wide belts and paracord slings, and the Velcro strap is secure. The knife rattles in the sheath on occasion, but it won’t come out on its own.I’ve come to believe that, for the money, this is a great knife that offers the user real options.
