This Is A Great Bike Rack, Especially At This Price
By Mark on Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2024
I bought this 3 months ago to replace a Yakima hanging type rack. We used it for a 1000 mile trip before reviewing and found it to be an excellent rack. Our 2 bikes made it perfectly. I like it MUCH better than the hanging type. The design and construction are outstanding. While the materials on the Yakima are obviously higher quality, these are perfectly adequate and functional and for the price difference it's an easy choice for me. Unless you need this right away, watch for deals. The price fluctuates between $65-$120. The rack fits my 2" receiver tightly with no wobbling or sway when the included pin is screwed tightly into place. The pin has a nib on the end to fit the optional lock. The rack's hitch-mount comes with an already attached adaptor that may be removed to use in a 1 1/4" receiver as well. Remember, bikes with a suspension can compress on bumps and bounce out of any tray type rack. You should attach the wheels to the trays with straps (buckle or velcro) or just use a bungee. I also wrapped a bungee around the frame tubes at the top hooks. Super secure and you can use foam pipe insulation if needed to protect the finish. This is a great rack and at the price it's a SUPER deal. UPDATE: We just got back from another road trip and I'm even more impressed with this rack than I already was. I now have a total of over 1500 miles on it, mostly highway with some around town use and even a little off road. This rack is an amazing bargain! I don't see ever needing anything more expensive than this. The quality is excellent and it works like a charm. Very secure and easy on and off.

Ok rack for the price.

I have had my bike rack for a while now and feel confident I can give an accurate review. I've gone on numerous bike rides with my son and my wife and I've gone by myself with this rack and I don't worry too much about the bikes while I'm driving down the road. The first issue I found was that one of the quick lock pins was missing it's bearing and spring which meant a trip to the hardware store to buy a replacement pin so I could actually use the rack. I solved that problem. The next issue I noticed is that it can be difficult to unlock the hold down clamps. For the folks that don't have good hand strength I suggest looking elsewhere for a bike rack. These locks can be tricky, especially if not lubed on a regular basis. I've got a very strong grip and have had to fight these things several times. I've got it down to a science now, simply press down on the holding hook and squeeze the unlock trigger while shaking the hook back and forth while still applying downward pressure you'll fell it unlock completely and then just wiggle the hold down hook upwards. You will also need to keep a rag with you at all times because you will need some padding between the hold down hook and your beloved bike (it will damage your paint job or even damege the frame) there is no soft padding on the hooks. I don't mind using a rag, it's no big deal at all. The rack does hold the bikes very nicely and doesn't move about in my hitch and doesn't not clank around while on the roads even at speeds of up to 75 mph. I also like that it has a universal hitch adapter, that's really nice. The fold down upright is nice for getting the back hatch open on my Jeep but I do wish the rack would pivot downward so we could get groceries in the car a little easier if the bikes were still on the rack. Overall I'd say this rack is ok and I'd recommend it considering the price. Just make sure there is someone there with a strong grip to unlock the hold down hooks and check or better yet, buy better pins.
