Here's how it works: I take my Vanguard Spirit Plus Binoculars out - they're waterproof, so it doesn't matter what the conditions are - and look for cool birds. If I see any through the multi-coated lenses, I make a note in my notebook so I remember to come back and birdwatch at that spot some other time.
On the other hand, if I go somewhere and spot a single rare bird, I make a note never to come back to that place. Because what are the chances that that rare bird would be in that exact same spot ever again?
