Jack O'Neill opened the first surf shop in 1952 from a garage on the great highway, San Francisco. He began modeling boards and selling wax, eventually experimenting with insulated vests to extend sessions in the frigid waters of Northern California. This thought process led to the creation of the neoprene neoprene suit, a Jack invention that changed the surfing world forever. The store later moved to Santa Cruz and went full force into the wetsuit business. That same progressive spirit still drives the company today.
