The Woodman's Pal 284 Premium Model Woodman’s Pal® did not and still does not go unnoticed by the U.S. Military. In 1941 this tool was issued as the LC-14-B which consisted of the complete unit including the tool, a military spec olive green canvas sheath, two-grit round honing stone, and reprinted how to use and survival manuals. This set was standard issued from the beginning part of World War II through Desert Storm. G.I.’s and the U.S. Army Signal Corp relied depended on the Woodman’s Pal for land clearing operations. During the Vietnam War, the Woodman’s Pal was designated as the “Survival Tool, Type IV” and was issued in air crew survival kits.

284 Premium Military Style
The Military Premium model is Woodman's Pal most impressive product. Since 1941 it has been manufactured in the USA. The cutting edge of this blade cuts branches up to 1 1/2" in diameter with one stroke. Its distinctive sickle hook slices through thick vines and briars, and eliminates unwanted growth on the ground. The high carbon steel blade has been toughened to Rockwell C47, giving it power for cutting, keeping its edge and flexibility in cold weather.

Green Canvas Sheath
During World War II this was standard issue for the Signal Corps. The branch insignia includes two signal flags, with a center staff and flaming torch, which are a symbol of signaling or communications. Military spec olive green with brass zippered closure and belt loop for attaching to your belt.

Round Two-Grit Honing Stone
Electro-Silicon carbide, intended to put a sharp edge to the Woodman’s Pal® rapidly. Furnace fused, it cuts quickest when soaking wet with water, smoothest when used with a little bit of oil. Use the one side to grind and form damaged edges, and the other is used to sharpen and “finish” the edges. Avoid glazing of the stone by flushing off steel shavings while honing.
