The Wave Shadow 2 offers a responsive platform that’s great for runners who want a lightweight trainer that doesn’t feel too soft and offers a solid ground feel—the sensation of being able to feel like you’re propelling yourself off the surface below instead of having the shoe absorb all of your energy. That effect comes by way of a U4ic—pronounced euphoric—midsole which, according to Mizuno, lightens the weight of the shoe without sacrificing the amount of cushioning it provides. While this certainly isn’t preferred by all runners, the Wave Shadow 2 had a polarizing effect among the eight wear testers who ran in them; runners either loved the middle ground the shoe occupies, or they were left wanting something cushier.
