Once he started his career with the Rangers he quickly became a favorite among Rangers' fans. Giacomin's style of play was one of a classic stand-sup goaltender and a skilled stickhandler known for leaving the crease to play the puck. He was the starting goaltender for the Rangers for nine straight seasons, leading the league in games played for four straight years from 1967, in shootouts in 1967, 1968 and 1971. He also shared the Vezina Trophy with partner Gilles Villemure in 1971.
