Understanding of the universal forces at work on a pool table, and effective manipulation of those forces are two completely different things...
Billards is more of a Geometry problem than one related to physics. Understanding the trajectories, angles, etc. is only part of being a good billardist. Being able to plan the shot sequences and then execute on what one sees on the table are basic skills of a billardist.
I'm OK in the shallow end.
