Well, I guess if this is a scam, and you're really unethical, you could buy 3 and sell them for a profit on eBay (runs for cover, uses wristband's powers to protect self from the flying bullets and tomatoes)....

The only use I can think of is if you like how it looks, but the "ooooh, shiny!" jokes come to mind,...

There's a reason I purposely didn't post anything on this one until now, and commented on 5 other woots tonight....

Let's give Woot the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the fine print says something about free psychiatric consult with purchase. Or maybe Woot is being kind and every person who buys one is banned from Woot going forward, thus saving them from themselves.

Summer of 2011.. The manufacturer of these had been sued and lost, based on their claims of the "power" of these things... They were selling for $1.00 each on the boardwalk in Wildwood NJ...

True story...

Just really damn lucky: Random Crap: 2/15/08, 2/19/09, 12/25/09, 4/1/10, 12/1/10, 12/25/10, 4/1/11, 5/11/11, 9/14/11, 10/12/11, 12/25/11

These steady my hands while I perform my phrenology evaluations.

If only they stretched more, they could be useful for securing a tinfoil hat.

I know I am,... 3 last thoughts.
1. Lest anyone thinks they could never fall for something like this, we all have our weak spots.
2. Maybe woot could hire the writers of the company for creative new writeups. I figure they have to be looking for work....
3. If there were any time I wished my state was white in color at this time, it would be now. Alas, it's not.

For those looking for actual info, Here's the Power Balance FAQ.

Edit: Actual as in it's actually from the company. Sheesh people, lighten up.

Are you kidding? Does the word "integrity" mean anything anymore at Woot?

You'd get more power out of these if you cut up a holographic, 1st Edition, Machamp and put it where the silly plastic hologram is.

If you're a football player put an Aggron in there for good measure.

OK woot... I originally wanted to make a joke about wanting to wait for a refurbished unit before I shell out full price... But the more I think about the people who are buying this just cause its a woot item... pisses me off more. The past year I have been wooting less and less. Not just because there are no more bags of crap... but because your "deals" have been really crappy. This is over the line for me.. I despise the prices of flaming bag at the malls and shops that hawk the utterly useless garbage claiming false promises, and polluting our earth with in needed plastic rubber bands to sell hauntjing scarecrows.. I am officially done with woot... how do I delete my membership.. I don't want it anymore. Delete it now I want my private information back...

How can people say these things don't work when all the Woot poster's blood pressure and heart rates are up and they are pounding the keyboard getting a great workout. All this and they have not even taken delivery of this very special device! This item is cheaper than a treadmil and takes up far less room.

I am embarrassed to say, we sell these at RadioShack. So I was looking at them one day to see what they were and read the back: basically what it said is that it is supposed to improve balance and make you have more energy. Then I looked to see what it was and realized that it was just a little band of silicon. I almost started rofloling.
But I suppose it makes sense. You give someone fake beer they think is real, they'll act drunk. Give someone one of these, they'll think they have better balance and more energy.

ZOMG - How dare Woot try to sell an item that I have no interest in buying?

Yes, I know. Millions of these have been sold, thus creating a demand, and yes I know this is cheaper then those millions were sold at, thus creating a great deal.

However, I don't want these. AND THAT MAKES ME MAD!!!!

This is a huge fail for woot as far as I'm concerned. This fraud is clearly documented, if you want to see how they do their demonstrations in the mall it's all over youtube how they teach those people to fool you.

I recommend a Placebo Band instead, at least the profits go towards education about this and other problems and you can show yours to people that overpaid for the magic ones! http://www.placebobandstore.com/store/

Anyone know what the potential scrap value is for these things? I'm thinking it's considerably less than what they're selling them for here, and why they haven't been "disposed of" already.

Just because people are willing to buy snake oil doesn't mean it's ethically okay to sell it to them. Taking advantage of the ignorant and mentally disadvantaged is reprehensible.

This is my favorite from the company's faq:

What Does It Do?
Power Balance™ contains a thin polyester film hologram, which reacts differently for each person. Give it a try and see what it does for you.

They no longer even claim that it does anything at all!
Hey - buy this special rock from me - only $12 - it's amazing!
What's it do you ask? Try it and see!

Woot - I won't suggest firing anyone in this economy, but the buyer who purchased these should be demoted or publicly flogged, or something.

And yes, the moment I saw this on the Daily Digest email, I raced here to express my shock and outrage that Woot would resort to selling snake-oil.

eta: BTW Woot - I have a back yard full of my special, life-enhancing rocks™ and I'm willing to sell them at a deep discount.
Please have your buyer (the one who purchased these) contact me.

Sometimes I think w00t just tries to dig up the worst products they can find. I'm just sad this isn't on w00t proper.
I really think they could find worse, though. Pet Rocks, maybe?

Ok, one last set of comments.
Woot's buyer probably didn't know better, bought the stuff. Now the decision is whether to eat the cost or not. They didn't.

Thunder Thighs as usual, is caught in the cross fire, and is in a no-win situation. Her attempts to pacify are her job, not necessarily how she truly feels, but it's awkward.

Remember y'all, this is a business, so I'm disappointed but not shocked. Frankly, if they want to make up for this, how about selling some leak frogs right now in place of these? It's not like they've never "sold out" of something and put a new product up (as in last week) before 24 hours are up.

I use to sell these things.

I wore one because it was free and it was awkward when I tried to tell someone they would benefit so much from it and they just turn around and ask "Well, where's yours then?!"

We did the balance test for customers and of course knowing the tricks, they fell for it easy. The balance test works the same in reverse as well (we dumb engineering students tried it as a "hysteresis test"), i.e. give them the item, perform the test, take away the item, perform test again, a lo and behold their balance/flexibility increased WITHOUT the item. WOWIE!

Now I have been free of the wristband for 2 years as I no longer have to sell knick-knacks and am making a comfortable living raping the environment.
