eBay often has the air tubes and mouth pieces for sale.

pwagz wrote:The missus and I have gone through many types of water bottles over the years. These are nice instant "Brita" style water "filters".

A couple of things to note.

The bite valve isn't for everyone. Personally, I tend to chug things when I drink them, so this took some getting used to. It's probably better that I don't drink as much, as fast anyways.

The bite valve is easier to clean than most people think. Just get a small cup and fill it with hydrogen peroxide and plop the valve in for about 30 minutes (or probably less). Grab a Q-tip and clean away the inside. Works wonders! I've also thrown the valve in my dish washer, but it doesn't do as good a job.

One issue you may find, is that after a while, you can sense lots of air coming through the line when you drink. It's at this point that the whole unit is shot. What happens is the hose connecting the filter to the bite valve has cracked some where, and air is now getting in. There's really no way to replace - trust me, I've taken the top apart to try. As far as I know Camelback does not sell the flow lines. On the up side, it's a cheap alternative to carbonated water, as long as you understand that it's not really carbonated.

One last thing. They aren't leak proof. They don't leak easily, but they do leak, so bear that in mind.

I think that's about it for my exhaustive review.

Bought these the last time around, and I love them. For me, the bite valve wasn't an issue since I've used Camelbak products before for hiking. While these are definitely not for hiking, they do a fantastic job filtering tap water. I use them all the time. I have only had one mold issue with the bite valve, and that was when someone who shall remain nameless put all the parts to the water bottle inside and closed it up while it was still wet. I didn't even bother trying to clean that one out, just replaced it with a new bite valve and reminded said person not to close up the bottles until they are completely dry. No problems with mold growing since then!

These are OK bottles, but I have discontinued using them and instead have a large brita water dispenser filter as well as a faucet attached filter that are very convenient.

The problems for me are:
1.) Cleaning and disassembling them takes a bit of time, some hard to reach/clean areas
2.) Amount of suction/manipulation required to drink from the spout. You kind of have to pinch the rubber spout with your teeth while simultaneously suctioning through the straw like filter. Very freudian.

I am in the market for a filtered water bottle.

CAN ANYONE COMPARE THIS TO THE BRITA WATER FILTER BOTTLE?

I am about to buy one or the other. I can get the Brita for $8.88 on Amazon with free prime shipping. I just want the best tasting water. Price is close, but Brita seems to be the better deal with shipping included. Plus, Walmart sells the filters and the bottle also for $8.88, but with tax. OK I am cheap.

But I do want the best bottle at the best price.

Has anyone compared Brita vs CamelBak?

Thank goodness for this, Woot! I have a ridiculous number of camelbak bottles around the house but I only had one with the built in filter, which I lost! Without it I tend to buy bottled water. Yeah, I'm picky about how my water tastes, but I need to stay hydrated, so I'm glad to find this. I bought mine in a regular box store for the full $25 last time!

As for cleaning, I use q-tips and a mild soap solution. A 10% bleach solution if I really felt it needed a cleaning more than that. Last time this camelbak never leaked but others have at the base where the drinking nozzle connects to the lid. My only gripe is this is only 0.6L and I prefer 1L. I will drink 3-5 liters per day. As others said, this will improve the taste of your water but is NOT intended to make water sanitary for drinking that wasn't already.

I'm in for 2!

ThunderThighs wrote:I think that must have been old copy or something. I zoomed in on the box and it says 6 months which for 2 filters means 3 months each.

I've sent the question on so the sale might get updated later on this morning.

I would definitely pay attention the number of gallons instead of months. I drink so much water that I'll get about 1/2 the time out of the filters that most people would. It'd be great to have an answer but I believe I was basing my filter changes off the 3 month timeframe. (Every 1.5 months for me.)

As far as filtering, I've got no idea on which does better... But the Groove is much sturdier than the Brita bottles. That's why I went with it, at least.

There's a good write-up here: http://gridwriter.com/2012/08/29/quest-for-water-camelbak-groove-bottle/ with info on the three top bottles, including price & material comparisons.

TY that helped. It seems it goes on quality and CamelBak seems to be the better build. I have seen the brita at walmart and it did seem flimsy. Taste of water seems to be the same with Brita, but I do like the ease and quality of the Camelbak.

Again, Thank you.

I hated the bite valve as well! Felt like I was getting TMJ just trying to drink water. But I found that with a pair of scissors, you can circumcise your mouthpiece and still live a fulfilling life with your water bottle.

labrat0017 wrote:I bought one of these and I didn't really like it. You have to suck really hard to get the water out and the mouth piece got moldy in three days and I had a hard time getting inside it to clean it out. I also don't care for the bite valve, I don't like having to bite down on something huge just to drink, BUT the water tasted soooo much better after being filtered through this. I guess I'm in the minority though. The moldy mouth piece was really the biggest problem for me, It was just so gross!

I bought these last time!!! I kept one for myself and gave one to my husband. I'm always trying to find water bottles that don't leak (even when upside-down) and don't break or fall apart easily. I've finally found them! I've had these for quite a while and the only problem is with the bite valve on my husband's seeing that our 5-year-old has chewed it apart. (So that one does leak now but only due to child exposure. Mine is perfect.) Not only that but I didn't even read about the filter when I bought the item so that was a huge bonus surprise! (I'm like the little girl from Signs with my water. No, really, I am.) Water freaks me out but with these Camelbak bottles I can now tell myself that it's okay to drink and therefore be more healthy! Maybe we'll buy more too... They'd make a good Yankee Swap gift!

I've gotten into writing down how much water I drink on fitbit which seems to have really increased the amount of water I drink. Now it is almost like a video game.

What color or are they all green/blue

My shipping link after 4 days still does not work. Does Woot use other shippers besides USPS?

We've had good luck cleaning the bite valve by jamming it on a post on the top rack of the dishwasher. In fact we put all the whole thing in the dishwasher (taken apart of course) a couple of times a week.

We occationally have leaks, but I think they are mostly caused by the check valve on the underside of the lid sticking due to washing. As long as I move it around a bit after the lid has dried, it appears to be pretty leakproof.

Dimensions 3” x 3.5” x 8.75”

Looks like the widest dimension is almost 90mm, sorry. Depending on the design of bottle holder (i've seen some bike bottle holders that are two "side" wire frames) it might still squeeze in, but I wouldn't count on it.

I got 2 of these (4 bottles) last spring and gave 3 as presents to graduating HS seniors for gifts, so they could use them at college with dorm water.

I kept 1 for myself and really like it. I just used it on a business trip with hotel water and got NO chlorine taste, it was GREAT tasting water.

I view it like my Brita filter on the go. I have had NO problems with leaking, mold, etc. I just ordered 3 more to give as gifts...this price is a bargain!

I bought these last time, and they are great. I like ice water, so I fill it up about halfway with ice and then add water, and I have cold water for a decent amount of time.

You do have to watch the amount of ice vs the size of your ice cubes. If it's too crowded the straw won't find a way to the bottom and you won't be able to screw on the top properly. If that happens, just empty out some of the ice until you can get the straw straight down.

Maybe everyone else knows this already, but I also take one when flying. You can take it through the TSA check as long as it is empty, and then immediately fill it up at the next drinking fountain you see, rather than paying $4 for a bottle of water.

I got this last time they were here on WOOT. Great buy. Durable, long lasting, and filters were easy to find on-line. Great for atheltic types who need a good water bottle. I bring it EMPTY to the gym, and fill up there, no more messes in my gym bag and I have good tasting water where I'm at.
