I swear, the world waits until I actually BUY a flashlight and then attacks me with better deals.

I just spent $25 shipped on a 130 Lumen with 3 settings. This one is more than twice as bright with more settings. And I even have a woot coupon so this one would actually be cheaper. Blarg.

That said, 4.5ish stars on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Guard-Dog-Waterproof-Rechargeable-Flashlight/dp/B0052BQBMS), $10 less here.

Has excellent reviews on Amazon, and is wonderfully flexible in battery options. 290 lumens is amazingly bright and it has adjustable brightness levels. I'm in for a few.

Okay, but ask yourself, how many times do you go for the flashlight and it isn't where you thought it was.

Flashlights are like socks I think - you never really have enough of either.

I'm just hanging out, really.

I have too many flashlights already. But I don't have too many rechargeable flashlights. How many flashlights do I actually need? I want this flashight. I must be some kind of flashlight freak.

Makes two of us. Can't have too many flashlights. Enough flashlights, perhaps. But never too many.

I always use flash lights when I'm drunk and too lazy to turn on any lights in the house at 3 am. And I really also want this flashlight.

Dammit! You've convinced me. I've gonna buy ANOTHER flashlight.

Very good point, and I just noticed it's rechargeable too. Friend of mine liked the flashlight I just bought, asked me to find one for him too. I think I just did.

In for 2 (one for myself). Definitely can't hurt to have a rechargeable flashlight around the house.

They're out of Sanford, Florida, if you need to contact them under the warranty:
http://guarddog-security.com/contact_us.php

This must be a close-out. They only offer a 240 Lumen version now:
http://guarddog-security.com/product_info.php?cPath=15&products_id=36

Correction below:

MyPooka wrote:No, the 290 lumen TL-GDH290 is still listed. See http://guarddog-security.com/product_info.php?cPath=17&products_id=74

Also see the catalog page for the entire series of tactical flashlights. It's listed there as well. http://guarddog-security.com/products.php?cPath=17

Yes he will appreciate it very much. It's an all around complete package and the flash light can be used for multiple situations. The flash light I carry every day is 180 lumens and is blinding bright. 290 lumens is crazy unnecessary bright but will put a smile on his face.

Yes, he will like it. But he will like it twice as much if you make him play "pin the tail on the donkey" first and then give the flashlight to him as his prize for "winning."

I don't have a 4G smartphone so I can save money and buy flashlights. And I need this flashlight so I can find the ones I already have.

This is probably a dumb question, but in a pinch, can I use a standard battery in this (e.g., AA or AAA)?

I see that it has a rechargeable battery, and I'm just afraid that if it sits in a drawer for 6-12 months, and there's a blackout, the battery will be drained and I'll be SOL.

It'd be good to know that I can use some standard alkalines if I have to.

What size is the barrel? I've read that some mount these on rifles.

What type of bulb are these ? notLED.

No info on its beam angle, battery life on a single charge at full brightness or how deep it is waterproof to. I want a wide beam, 90 min battery life and be waterproof to 200ft.

Thanks, didn't see it. I'll correct above. When I clicked the "products" tab at their website, that's the only flashlight I could find. Sorry for the error.

A week ago I spent an inordinate amount of time researching flashlights. There are better deals on flashlights now. One concern is that it doesn't say which LED it is. I'm guessing it's the CREE R2.

I just purchased a CREE Q5 LED Ultrafire flashlight which is < $6 on Amazon -- delivered -- from BBQbuy and it's 300 Lumens. It's amazingly bright and runs on 1 traditional AA battery. I've also ordered an Ultrafire Wf-502b Cree Xm-l T6 Led which is 1,000 Lumens -- over 3 times brighter than this one -- for $14 delivered, though it runs on a 18650 battery which is more expensive than a AA, but 3.7 volts.

Anyway, I spent a LOT of time researching. There are many, many options out there. I watched tons of videos on Amazon. The important thing to look at is the LED in the flashlight and the construction of the body. This flashlight doesn't even say which LED is in it, so that tells me that it's not for the flashlight connoisseur. It's probably fine for around the house and it has a built in charger, but I'm not in on this Woot.

How long does it last one one charge? (Yes, I know, twice as long on medium as on high. What's that in metric seconds?)

Thanks from me too. I was gonna drop $45 on a pair of these until I read qrimp post.

Note to Kuma99 - The Wf-502b Cree Xm-l does not come with battery if you ordered from Amazon. You can get one with charger for $8.80 or two with charger for $11.70.

aargh..yeah..has a pushbutton switch. It is possible to have a waterproof one to 200', they just have to have a swtich that doesn't use push buttons.

Thanks for that. Your comment talked me down. The top reviews on Amazon all read like they were originally written in crayon. I appreciate the info.

Do you know the answer to the above question, about replacing the battery? Can AAs be used in a pinch? Is the included lithium battery easily replaceable?

No. It uses an ICR18650, and there's no readily available primary equivalent.

I see that it has a rechargeable battery, and I'm just afraid that if it sits in a drawer for 6-12 months, and there's a blackout, the battery will be drained and I'll be SOL.

That's not really an issue; it's Li-ion.

Do you mind linking to the Ultrafire CREE Q5 for <$6? I see one that is $5.65 from BBQBuy that is a CREE Q5 but it's not an Ultrafire. Was that the one you were referring to?

I too got CREE T6 1000 lumen for $14 and it's the best flashlight I've ever owned. One of them has a slightly larger barrel and an adapter included that allows it to use 3 AAAs. This is the one I would highly recommend. For 290 lumens, this one is overpriced.

For the longest time, I've said there are two things you can't have enough of ... and in various places ... because you just never know when they'll come in handy ... knives and flashlights.
