Poll: Who’s going to the Super Bowl this year?
  • 47.9% - I appreciate that rather than post the 512 possible combinations of teams you will just let us make your predictions in the comments. 710
  • 52.1% - I don’t care. I don’t like football anyway. 772

Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

The 512 includes all the teams, even the ones that we know won't be there, like the Cardinals and Dolphins...

Wait, it's 496 combinations instead of 512, no?

C(32, 2) = 32 * 31 / 2 = 496.

The 512 number appears to come from 32*32/2, which assumes that each team can play itself in the Super Bowl. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's not going to happen.

Actually it's 256. There's going to be 1 of the 16 AFC teams and 1 of the 16 NFC teams at the Super Bowl. 16 * 16 = 256.

Look at this! Someone using their brain!!

Btw- Packers will make it back to the Big Show. And since some Pat's fan up above said by 6- GB over the Pat's by 7!

I'd sure like it if the Texans could put some kind of postseason run together this year.

As a loyal Broncos fan, I would feel guilty for not putting them here. But I'd feel a lot more honest about it if they hadn't dumped Tebow like so much garbage. I'm gonna say Patriots, because with a name like that, it's only 'Patriotic' to root for them, right? Now, I just have to hope that the Cardinals and a few other teams of that caliber make it to the play-offs, so that they can lose to the Broncos!

So are you saying the Broncos had a better chance of going to the Super Bowl with Tebow over Manning? That doesn't sound like a loyal bronco fan, that sounds like a loyal Tebow fan.

Well, it depends on *what* the poll is really asking. If they are really asking "Who's going to win", then there are only 32 possible answers. If "Patriots and Saints" is an acceptable answer, then 256 is the right number of combinations. If they are expecting a "Patriots over Saints" or "Saints over Patriots" answer, then there are 512 possible responses.

I couldn't vote for either option. Should have had at least a few matchups and then "other". But hey, I can be picky at times.
