I'm really concerned about how low to the ground the tiny model is in the provided picture. Put a 275 pound man in it (and the stated weight limit is 350) and I bet he's dragging his butt. Anyone have any experience with this?

Nothing wrong with personal opinion on stuff or personal preference. While I do like the look of woven hammocks, cloth hammocks aren't inherently cheaper at all & some can be incredibly beautiful & expensive. The cloth ones are also much safer for children & one without cross bars are less likely to dump you - so cloth ones are also safer for those that are less agile or elderly. The bonus of cloth is no unsightly tread marks in your backside too. That is a huge pet peeve of mine of any woven seating in the summer when you et directly on the weave. I am not wanting to wear knee length shorts in order to avoid a waffle print backside.
So although I've owned woven hammocks, the two I use are actually cloth. One from here that I bought thorough trek light - it's brilliant for indoor & outdoor use as well as camping/hiking & another is a gorgeous cloth Equadorian hammock (has no crosser bar) and you'd never think of that as cheap looking (or terribly cheap in price IMO).
NOW if you want one that looks cool & you like a modern twist & doing things on the cheap - they have great DIY's online about making your own huge 4 pt hammocks from drop cloths. Very cool.
