Poll: What would make NASCAR better?
  • 4.5% - Nothing. It’s the perfect sport as-is. 62
  • 4.2% - Faster cars. 58
  • 0.4% - More laps. 6
  • 9.3% - More crashes, but fewer injuries. 127
  • 55.9% - I don’t watch NASCAR. 766
  • 21.7% - Hanna-Barbara-style “wacky” race once a year. 297
  • 3.9% - Some other addition I’ll throw in the comments. 54
1370 votes

Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

How about a figure 8 track?!

Use road courses instead of ovals. Use exciting cars instead of ones that look like family sedans.

Oh, wait, then that would be racing just like the rest of the world enjoys.

I was just about to post the same thing. That would be fun to watch.

Agree - F1, the best. Any true sports car race, endurance racing also. Indycar has become a spec series like spec Miata.

How about real 'stock' cars. And maybe turning left AND right. Yeah road courses!

And lets prevent people racing in the Sprint cup from ALSO racing in the Nationwide. It seems dumb!

I'll echo sentiments of others on here.

1. Shorter races, 2-3 hours is more than enough.

2. More road courses.

3. Actual stock cars. Look at DTM or Australian V8 cars.

4. Drivers with personalities. I don't need to hear your top 10 sponsors every time your mouth opens.

5. Fewer WWE cautions. Don't throw a caution just because your races are boring and you want to bring the pack back together.

6. Less Dale Jr and Danica. We get it, you want to promote a name. How about ones that win more than once every 3 years with some of the best equipment.

You say that like it's a bad thing! I agree - more road courses!

Fair officiating. Particular drivers get off with a slap on the wrist for wrecking others.

This was actually close.

1) Shorter races is a good thing.
2) Don't need more road courses. The current mix is enough. If you don't get that, go watch F1 (which is good stuff as well).
3) Cars that are more stock would be good.
4) The issue isn't the drivers. The issue is that they are trying to make everything PC that they have taken the redneck out of the sport. These guys are rednecks, let them be that way, it's interesting. We need these guys to throw some post-race punches without getting fined and docked points.
5) Good point about the cautions
6) We need more Dale Jr. and Danica not less. But in addition to them, we need other drivers to get promoted as well. You need ESPN/ABC to show your races because they will not cover a sport properly on SportsCenter unless it's prominent on their network.

Here's a few more:

7) Fewer rules. The cars don't need to be even. Let the guys in the garage innovate and play catch up with each other (put limits for safety).
8) Get back onto some of the smaller tracks like Rockingham and do it with lower prices to try to capture the next generation of fans. You are losing the current crop of kids b/c it's become too expensive to see a race and the races are moving to bigger venues (and cities).

Make the cars stock again. Get off the track and do rally type races.

I think the "Wacky Racer" concept would be more popular if not for the fact that anyone who remembers it is nearly 50 years old. Trust me, if you haven't seen it, you are missing out. It is awesome!

Go back to driving "Stock Cars" Not the cookie cutter race specific frames and bodies they use now. Back in the day the cars they drove you could buy at the dealer. That is why I'm a fan of AMA superbikes. You can go to your local motorcycke shop and buy almost the same bike that you are watching in the race. With the exception of suspention tuned for a specific rider and exaust.

I think I'm getting into Heaven.

I think the cars need passengers. Try doing 500 laps with the driver's wife moaning about the lack of air conditioning and their kids asking, "are we there yet?" every 20 miles.

More diversity! I know a lot of NASCAR fans who are Black and Latino, so let's Tiger Woods that sport and bring some color to the good-ole-boys' network!

I wonder how common my voting behavior was: head down to "I don't watch NASCAR" and then get enticed by the wacky race idea.

A road course in the Chase and BETTER TV COVERAGE!!!!!

jorjemonsalv

quality posts: 0 Private Messages jorjemonsalv

I love NASCAR. It would be great to see a road course, like Watkins Glen, in the Chase. Even if they had a Wacky Hanna Barbara style race, Dale Jr. would not win it. I would put my money on Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Wally Gator or Yogi Bear.

I faintly remember it from repeats since I'm not old enough to have seen it when it originally aired. The funny thing is I just saw the complete series dvd set in my Amazon Gold Box quick picks before coming here and seeing this poll.

I voted for the don't watch option since I don't think there are any changes that would get me watching NASCAR, but I did just order Wacky Races from a 3rd party seller.
