A volunteer from the shelter recently lost it when she went to get her pool ready for the summer. She realized that he had always done it and she was clueless as to what to do. He passed in Feb.

As she said, she can call someone if she needs help. That really wasn't the problem. It was that initial moment of her new reality that just popped back in her head. It hit her like a ton of bricks all over again.

Yeah, the pool is a huge headache.

Well, another day has passed and I didn't use algebra once.

Do you know of a vet by your vacation home that could check on her out or because of her age do you think it's best to let nature take it's course and give her plenty of hugging.

There is a great vet here but we have never used her. The lab has so many other problems that we are just loving her. She has cataracts, a bad hip, and a huge lipoma (or something like that). We just want her to be peaceful and pain free.

How is she doing?

At our last stop with internet for a while. Just checking to say that aside from a few scrapes and mosquito bites we are all alright.

Hey wootland!

stopping in to say hi. can't remember if I mentioned here or not, but didn't get the new job after all. apparently in the second round of interviews, when I was talking to the company VP's I failed to dumb down the answers to meet them at their level when they asked some technical questions, and so got rejected because they thought I "might have a difficult time explaining concepts and procedures to the customers." So, even though the hiring manager and the other engineers wanted to bring me onboard, I got vetoed out by the senior management. Mental note to self -- no matter how friendly they may be, executives are still executives, with all that it implies.

got walloped by the latest round of thunderstorms yesterday. reading the news reports today, looks like we saw anywhere between 75-90 mph winds at our house. we were at church at the time, and watching the rain blow sideways past the windows and zero visibility beyond a few feet, must admit I've never seen anything quite like it before in my life. lots of tree damage all over the place. I do have lot more respect now for those who live in hurricane territory.

as far as our house goes, we lost the top half off one of our big walnut trees (might end up losing the whole tree?) and our street is still without power. last report say it could be 3-5 days before we get it back! Now we're trying to decide what to do, because with the hot weather and no power (and no water, since we're on a private well) it's just not bearable to stay in the house. Booking a hotel will be expensive, assuming we can even get a cheap one with this being the holiday wee and all. might have to drive the family down to KS and stay there for a couple days with the family.

So sorry about the job. Don't let it discourage you. When I worked I worked in Human Resources, I sent several candidates on for interviews thinking they were the perfect fit, and someone else along the way did not. It is tough, but on the flip side, often I would send someone I did not consider terribly well suited to the job, and they got it. NO explanation for how people think.

Sorry about the tree and the damage. Literally, when it rains it pours!

Either grill everything you had in the refrigerator/freezer or take it to the family as a hostess gift.

She is sleeping on the kitchen floor. She rouses up every now and then and we talk to her. She goes back to sleep. A lot like my Mom at the end. The lab liked the kitchen floor cause the air vent blows on her.

I'd be interested to know that you think about this...
I know two people who are in dire straits money wise.
Both are currently looking for new smart phones.

Have smart phones been elevated to a total necessity?

I just checked a new formula on Verizon. If we all had smart phones, it would be $300 a month.

I find it hard to pay that much just for phones.

People can't wait to go home to check the computer anymore???

One person is young. Just divorced. The entire family is getting calls from bill collectors trying to find her.

The other is retired and just sold their house and needs to live off the sale money for the rest of their life. Their parents lived to almost 100 and they aren't 70 yet.

Pretty amazing. On the other hand, maybe they don't have a computer at home. Or a Kindle. Or cable. Can't you use a smart phone for all those things? I'm asking, because I really don't know. But maybe that's an answer. If you add up phone, Internet, eReader, cable....

AZ - glad to head Flash is doing ok...not so much for your wallet tho. Did they end up doing a splenectomy too? (quite often the spleen twists with the stomach)

Joyner - sorry to hear about yer old girl. I assume she's on some good pain meds to keep her comfy?

I am getting the Reddog a consult with a veterinary acupuncturist/alternative specialist on Thurs. His rear legs haven't been behaving - sometimes they just don't go the way they are supposed to.

heh. decided against skipping town due to "3-5 day" power outage. instead, booked a couple nights at a local hotel at reasonable rate through priceline.

and of course, mere hours after making those non-refundable reservations, power comes back on.

Back from dog walk. Finally a nice summer night.

Then realized that my rose of sharon has dropped a billion flowers that were rotting on my lawn.
I use to pick them up every day. There are bees though. Have to be careful.
Ended up with a bee in the bag. Left the bag open so the bee might get out. Didn't want him in the garbage can.

Since I was doing this in the dark, I ended up picking up a couple of slugs. Ick. Had to shower after scrubbing my hands.
Slimy little things.

Got three big bites from something.

That and we finally had to cave in and get smart phones (granted not newest models, we got 3GS's well after the 4 was out - and still have them), but for Orc the only way he could use the government phone captioning system was to have an iphone. They may have an android app now, but they didn't then.

Evening folks. Hope everyone is doing well.

Son cooked dinner and then we ran some errands. Got back in time to watch Hell's Kitchen. Wow, it's a good season.

Maisy had 2 seizures yesterday. Relatively mild compared to the more recent ones. They happened about an hour and a half apart.

RIP Andy Griffith

If you haven't watched the Andy Griffith Show lately, give it a try.

I'm amazed at how well it holds up.
Plus it seems it actually was a nice place. Ron Howard is normal. How many other child stars are?
Andy let him explore the cameras and tech stuff when Ron was a kid.
